What is iNomado for?

iNomado makes calls via the Internet connection of your iPhone, iPod, iPad, therefore cheaper.

How to install iNomado

1) preferably first create an account on www.nomado.eu you will receive a welcome email with a username and SIP password

2) Get Appstore iNomado search and download

3) open the application and go into the Accounts tab. Click on edit and then enter in my ID

4) Fill the SIP username (8 digits) and password and save

5) activate the account and return to the dialer, if the SIP button is green you can call via SIP Nomado

To use your address book and if your number format is +32, +33 or +41 … etc. .. must first go to the Settings tab, Add Prefix and then in the second choice (Add Prefix) + and choose save

To be called

In this new version it is possible to receive calls. If you want to receive calls when the application is not launched (also called as receiving calls in background mode) you must enable the Push notification

- on the iPhone general settings

- on the iNomado itself : go to Account, click on the account and activate APNS

Nomado has always been giving the best chat service. With the user friendly livechat system, customer will be able to chat with support team using the web chat software. The customer does not have to install anything, they just have to click the chat button on the Nomado website and they will be connected to Live Chat agent. Thus, to fulfill what Nomado promised to customers for the 24/24 support, Nomado Support Team is round the clock to assist you.

How not to use the Internet volume plan?

If you find open Wi-Fi (you always find many of them on your street) you will be able to call via nomado without using your Internet monthly volume.

This is a revolution guys, is this the nightmarre of the Mobile operators? Nope, as they focuse now on the Internet access..

When we heard about the expat project of two young women from Gent, we got seducted.

The idea is not to go around the world and open the eyes. It will be more than that : work and travel !

What an extraordinary idea… and also possible thanks to Internet.

Belgian nomads

1) Please explain shortly your project
We’re about to leave on a journey of location independent working. It means we’ll be travelling to some countries we have in mind, settle down there for 2-3 months. Working for our existing clients and new ones. And then move on to the next spot.

2) When did you start to consider moving for a long trip, is it a child dream or a result of being a bit fed up of the belgian life?
Travelling always has been a part of our lives. Once you get that disease you don’t get rid off it anymore.
This trip got into our minds in 2007, and got real in 2008 when we asked our parents and family no longer to give our gifts, but give us money to be able to save for traveling.

3) Do you plan to come back home after your trip, you kind of love Belgium, right?
We definitely love Belgium. Although it might be one of the countries with the highest taxes, it is definitely a place with quality of life.
I have been living in Israel, Catherine has been in South America, we both spent time in many other countries in the world, and as a european foreigner it is nice traveling, as a local middle class person though it definitely must not always be heaven.
So yes, we definitely see ourselves coming back to the lovely Ghent. Yet, admitted, if we find heaven to be somewhere else, nothing will stop us from exploring it

Are you prepared yourself to stay in one of those places?
Not really, and yes a bit: we travelled to Thailand last september for one month, and decided to check if the concept of working while away was easy: is internet available and workable, what about the cost of living, how do clients respond to that idea, and sofort.
So we did check out Thailand a bit.

4) Was it difficult to chose the countries you will stay in?
Not really. We both listed some countries we liked to visit, and took the ones we had in common, and those which had a low cost of living, yet good standards and workable internet. (no reason to go to sit in Kyrgystan if the internet there isn’t working)
At first we were thinking of doing an ATW tour, with 16 stops. But we soon decided our idea of travelling is not hopping from one country to another.
So we only choose 3 places, booked the tickets, and will settle ourselves there for several months.
The thing about this way of working and traveling is: if it works (which I’m pretty certain it will) you can keep doing it as much as you want.
If we decide within 3 years we want to go to let’s say Panama for 3 months: we’re able to do it without any problem.
So there is no need to cramp 16 spots into one trip.

5) How did your customers react? Did some showed some relunctancy?
Definitely. Not all customers are reacting with joy. But hey, this is what we want.
We know we do good work, and heck, most of our customers barely see us.
So does it make a difference if we’re in Belgium or in South America? As long as the internet is working well, and as long as we do our jobs well, I don’t see much problems.
Moreover: there is so much technology enabling this way of working.
My grand father used to work for Belgacom 2 decades ago. I remember going with him as a youngster, while he showed this enormous room with a huge camera, and he said: we’ll enable a communication with the US, and you’ll see people sitting on the other side of the world. And so it happened. It was a very expensive thing. Companies paid to go and sit there to have meetings.
Today all this technology is available in every computer, in several programs: MSN, Skype, GoogleTalk, iChat. you name it.
Also, thanks to you guys, people not quite into computers, can use this technology anyway.
For some of our customers that might not know these communication tools, we provided a local Belgian number via Nomado.
It makes it very easy for them: they call the local number and get to us, wherever we are.
Some of them might not even realize we’re not in Belgium

6) Do you want to prove yourself or the rest of the world that it is possible to live a real nomad live in this world?
Definitely. We have been saving for this trip. As in: we have some savings through selling a bunch of stuff we didn’t need anymore (like books, cd’s some furniture and some old gear) and via presents we got from our family.
But, this is the backup plan.
The idea is to come back with as much on our savings account as we left.
This trip should be enabled by working on the road.

7) If you had children, do you think this would have been possible too?
Yes.
I am convinced you give your child a lot of experiences when travelling like this.
I must admit I myself probably wouldn’t do it with a baby.
But a 5/6 year old can enjoy such a trip. If I think about what our plans are: doing a gamepark with wild animals, live near a sea, surf, visit Easter Islands if possible, go to Ushiaia. I can imagine a 6 year old seeing the world is an amazing experience. I wouldn’t have objected it if my parent would have taken me on such a trip :p

Do you think many people could do the same but would feel guilty being in a Hamac on the beach with laptop when people are stuck in traffic jam in the rain…
As a freelancer I decided to not go into the traffic thing and work from home. One of the reasons to be independent was actually the traffic. I could never imagine myself getting up at 7 to get at work at 9. Have a long day and get home at 9 in the evening.
It’s crazy and total crap if you ask me. I roll out of bed at 9 and start working at 9.30.
And admitted: I make crazy hours too. But atleast I’m not eating myself while in a trafficjam. I’d go nuts.
I never felt guilty getting up at nine. Because I really work hard. And as a freelancer I pay enough taxes not to feel guilty about anything..

9) What do you think you will miss the most from Belgium (except family and friends of course)
French fries and culture.
Most of these countries have total different cultures. We’ll definitely miss the possibility of going to a theater or a good movie, having nice chitchats with friends.
Yet there is so much in place, and we’ll be back anyway!

10) Don’t you think people will feel jalous about your project and what would you like to say to them?
We do think some of them are jealous. And they should be!
Although they should realise it is not the easiest thing to do. Living like this won’t be honey and pie all the time.
We did calculate a lot, and we sold a bunch of stuff, because we were willing to. (I’m not sure everyone is willing to get out the comfortzone built up )
And we’ll be working on the road: so it is more than ‘just a vacation’.

But what we really want to say:
Everyone can do this!

And also on the business part: how did we prepare our business to do this.

The main idea behind all of this is: if you have a dream, go and reach for it.
It is more possible than you think.

iNomado

Our dev is tired to get the iNomado, supposed to be the best quality VoIP application, rejected for the 4th time.

Are we victim of the Apple dance? Or simply we are so bad in doing an iApp that allows to make calls via the WiFi connection? The thing is we are testing it and works perfect!!
